Biography
Overview
Alexandra Gliga is an associate in the global White Collar Practice and is based in the Boston office. Alexandra represents both individuals and companies through complex domestic and cross-border disputes, including government investigations, litigation, and trials. Alexandra has tried two federal criminal cases since 2018. Alexandra maintains an active pro bono practice spanning immigration litigation, post-conviction habeas proceedings, and environmental matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Alexandra served as a law clerk to the Hon. William G. Young of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and to the Hon. R. Malcolm Graham of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Before law school, Alexandra worked as a financial analyst in the New York offices of two global investment banks.
Experience
United States v. Kapoor, et al.: Represent executive in 14-week RICO trial over opioid marketing by Insys Therapeutics; client convicted and post-trial motions pending.
United States v. Usher, et al. (SDNY 2018): Developed expert witness strategy as member of trial team that secured a jury acquittal for UK national in the criminal antitrust prosecution.
Represented US's third-largest hospice provider as part of False Claims Act investigation by US Department of Justice (DOJ) Fraud Section and five US Attorneys' Offices. Investigation arose from four qui tam complaints alleging client billed Medicare for ineligible hospice patients. DOJ declined to intervene.
Represented businessman charged with extortion in federal pre-trial detention proceedings.
Represented pro bono immigration detainee in habeas corpus proceedings, securing his release.
Pro bono work on behalf of regional environmental advocacy organization as part of litigation against water polluters.
Co-authored amicus brief pro bono in support of appeal by gun control advocacy group to the Supreme Court of Delaware.
Member of pro bono trial team representing Rhode Island state inmate with respect to post-conviction relief.
