In a Q&A with Managing IP as a part of its "Five Minutes With" series, Chair of White & Case's Global Intellectual Property Practice, Yar Chaikovsky, discusses his practice and career.
Chaikovsky notes that, "there is no typical day" while working as an intellectual property trial lawyer.
"The most exciting [aspect of my role] is achieving success for clients," he says. "Knowing your clients are satisfied with your representation is the best feeling," he continues, and urges others to learn from losses.
Chaikovsky also notes: "One misconception about IP…is that you need to have a technical background to be successful. In the end, you need to be the best advocate for your clients – that doesn't necessarily entail technical knowledge. It is more about the ability to persuade."
In regard to any advice that he would offer his younger self, Chaikovsky says, "Stress less. It doesn't help the clients, your team, or you."
