Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Intellectual Property Practice with the arrival of Michael J. Songer as a partner in Washington, DC.
"Mike is highly regarded for his extensive trade secret and patent experience," said White & Case partner Dimitrios Drivas, who leads the Firm's Global Intellectual Property Practice. "In 2018, we saw an increase in trade secret cases and we expect this type of litigation to increase in the future. Mike's strong experience in this area will complement our existing expertise and strengthen the Firm's positon as a leading adviser in technology disputes."
Michael's practice includes representing US companies in high-stakes litigation related to complex trade secrets, US patents, licensing arrangements and copyright law. Michael joins White & Case from Crowell & Moring, where he successfully litigated numerous high-profile trade secret and US patent cases. His work also led to one of the largest contested jury verdicts for a trade secret case, and he has led numerous patent cases from trial through appeal. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, where he has focused his teaching on technology and legal issues since 1999.
"Mike's arrival reinforces our commitment to strengthening our market-leading Intellectual Property Practice in the United States," said Jack Pace, the Head of White & Case's Competition Section for the Americas. "Expanding our capabilities to advise in the technology industry is a pillar of our 2020 strategy, and Mike's addition supports this goal while complementing our strong existing practice."
"We are delighted to have Mike join us; he is highly regarded by his clients and has a wealth of experience in advising on high-profile, complex patent and trade secrets cases," said Washington, DC Office Executive Partner Shamita Etienne-Cummings.
