Regulating globalization: Clash and cohesion

Governments around the world are putting in place a range of new policies and regulation that are reshaping global interconnectedness. Countries with similar values and concerns are harmonizing their laws in ways that can ease business activity within their borders. At the same time, many countries are erecting new regulatory barriers, often aimed at countries with which they compete. As a result, a new world of "clubs" and "fences" is emerging in place of the relatively open cross-border flows of goods, services, capital, people and data that characterized the past four decades of globalization.
