"Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war." This succinct and somber statement, co-signed by numerous AI scientists, technology industry leaders and academics and issued by the global "Center for AI Safety" (San Francisco-based nonprofit), highlights the potentially severe and urgent risks presented by AI, and generative AI in particular, and captures the critical importance of regulating AI before these risks become realities.

AI is being developed and adopted at an unprecedented speed, and regulators around the globe are now scrambling to catch up with the speed of technology. But to date, there has been no "common approach" to developing applicable regulatory and legal framework. Trends are developing though, and it is becoming clear that there will be important fundamental differences in the regulatory focus and approaches among regulators around the globe.

In this seminar, data protection/IP experts from White & Case including Hope Anderson (a partner in the Los Angeles office and a leader in the Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity and Commercial Litigation Practice), Erin Hanson (a New York office partner in the Firm's Technology Transactions Practice and a co-leader of the Firm's AI Taskforce) and Tim Hickman (a partner in the London office and the head of the Firm's Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice) will serve as speakers. These experts will provide an overview of the rapidly changing landscape of AI regulation in the US and EU and discuss insights on what to expect in terms of regulation in Japan with the panel Moderator.
