White & Case advises the Built-Obayashi joint venture on new Atlassian Australian Headquarters

Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Australian construction group Built and the Obayashi Corporation (the Built-Obayashi Joint Venture) on the Design & Construction (D&C) Contract for the new AU$1.4 billion Atlassian Australian Headquarters in Central Sydney.

"This was a particularly challenging transaction because of the cutting edge nature of the building, the drive to limit embodied carbon and the interface with various stakeholders in proximity of the development," said White & Case local partner Mark Montag, who co-led the Firm's deal team.

The 39-level tower to be located adjacent to Central Station in Sydney is a part of the Central Precinct Renewal Program by Transport for NSW to transform the area into an innovative tech hub. The Australia-based White & Case team advised the Built-Obayashi Joint Venture on the negotiation of the D&C Contract with Atlassian's development partner, Dexus, Australia's largest office tower landlord. 

The building will be the world's tallest hybrid-timber building and will set a new benchmark in office sustainability and innovation once completed in 2027. The build is estimated to use 50 per cent less embodied carbon compared to a conventional build.
